Orthognathic surgery - improved airway, breathing

This post is not a real discussion on sleep apnea issues. I don't have much to contribute there. However, when I saw this picture in Hupp, Ellis and Tucker's book, a big light turned on and I finally understood how a BSSO might improve one's breathing. So, I'm posting it here. May it help someone else on this journey.

I never had sleep apnea issues, but my surgeon says he improved my "issues" by opening up my airway 1mm. I had a lower jaw advancement and genio on August 21, 2008.

Hi Katherine! That is a good picture that explains the clearing of the passage that happens after a surgery.

My brother has undergone that same procedure with his dentist. Easley and other parts of the country have capable practitioners that can help their patients improve breathing through an orthognathic surgery.

Good luck on your operation!
